Aqui se analizara una novela hasta ahora ignorada: La tortola del Ajusco, escrita por Julio Sesto y publicada en 1915. Contando con las teorias de memoria cultural propuestas por el arqueologo aleman Jan Assman, argumentare que el texto de Sesto constituye una ‘figura del recuerdo’. Tambien recurrire a las teorias del filosofo aleman Walter Benjamin y las del critico literario Raymond Williams para evaluar La tortola del Ajusco como un ejemplo de historicismo evolucionista vulgar-- una intervencion literaria que privilegia la cultura residual si no ‘caduca’ del Porfiriato. Here, I shall examine a yet unstudied novel: Julio Sesto’s La tortola del Ajusco , published in 1915. By activating theories of collective memory as elaborated by German archeologist Jan Assman, I claim that Sesto’s novel constitutes a ‘figure of memory’. I shall also invoke the theories of German philosopher Walter Benjamin as well as those of literary critic Raymond Williams, and thus evaluate La tortola del Ajusco as a type of vulgar evolutionist historicism—literary intervention that privileges a ‘residual’ or even expired culture.

De aviación, aves cantoras y nostalgia: La tórtola del Ajusco, de Julio Sesto, como figura del recuerdo
