The present paper proposes to reconstruct the distinctive notes assumed in Cordoba by a punishment institution designed specifically for the female population during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Based on an analysis of historical sources, we maintain that the Good Shepherd Prison actively intervened both in the consolidation of representations of legitimate authority in the correctional exercise -legitimacy resulting from the confluence of three variables: gender, class and religion- as in the production of gendered subjectivities when prescribing, the institutional routine of the establishment, correction strategies anchored around the ideal of domesticity.
