espanolEl Archivo General de Castilla y Leon es la cabecera del Sistema de Archivos de la Comunidad Autonoma. Sin embargo, para gran parte de los historiadores no es muy conocido. A lo largo del articulo se analiza el contexto de creacion del archivo, su historia como centro basico del entramado archivistico de Castilla y Leon, asi como sus funciones y sus fondos, con el fin de dar a conocer mejor el lugar donde se deposita la memoria mas contemporanea de Castilla y Leon, la de su historia mas reciente como Comunidad Autonoma. EnglishThe Archivo General de Castilla y Leon is the head of the Archives System of Castilla y Leon. However, for most historians it is not well known. Throughout the article is analyzed the context of creation of the archive, its history as the basic center of the archival framework of Castile and Leon, as well as its functions and its documentary fonds, in order to better publicize the place where the contemporany memory of Castilla y Leon is deposited, its most recent history as a Comunidad Autonoma.
