History of atlas mapping in Smolensk region is described in the article from XVIII century to contemporary situation. Also the evolution of administrative territorial division of the territory in modern borders of Smolensk region is shown. Как часть Московии Смоленщина отображена на многих картах XVII–XVIII веков. Однако первым картографическим произведением, посвященным именно этому краю, скорее всего, является «Атлас Смоленской губернии». Он состоит из 25 листов размером 25 на 20 см. Тираж неизвестен.
