There are currently 15 taxa of the genus Juncus listed in the latest Red list of ferns and flowering plants of Slovakia. This paper is focused on the taxa Juncus acutiflorus, J. atratus, J. bulbosus subsp. kochii, J. capitatus and J. sphaerocarpus. All of the listed species are dependent on habitats with a sufficient water supply and a surface with a low cover of perennial plants. Their specific ecological needs, combined with the draining of wetlands and flooded meadows, the construction and excessive usage of fertilizers and pesticides, have caused a decreasing number of the species population. In addition to listing all herbarium items of subject taxa, we focused on observing the current state of its both historical and recent localities and evaluating the possibilities of their conservation and protection. We confirmed two sites for J. capitatus and discovered one new site for J. bulbosus subsp. kochii. The poor number of current localities suggests that the species need more attention from botanists, as well as a general protection of wetlands.
