Spinach is one of the plants that are much in demand by people but spinach production is declining due to reduced agricultural land. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of Sargassum sp. liquid organic fertilizer on the growth of spinach plant (Amaranthus hybridus L.) using hydroponic system. This study was conducted in December 2017 until April 2018, in laboratory and home wire of Biology, Universitas Negeri Padang. This study used Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Parameter observed was Plant height (cm), Number of Leaves, Leaf Area (cm), Wet Weight (g), and Dry Weight (g). The data was analyzed using the Analysis of Variants (ANOVA) test and DNMRT further test at 5% level. The result showed liquid organic fertilizer of Sargassum sp. had no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight of spinach plant (Amaranthus hybridus L.). PENDAHULUAN Sayuran merupakan tanaman holtikultura yang memegang peranan penting dalam kehidupan manusia, baik sebagai sumber gizi maupun untuk menambah selera makan. Salah satu jenis tanaman sayuran daun adalah bayam. Bayam banyak diminati oleh masyarakat luas karena rasanya yang enak, lunak dan manfaatnya yang banyak, sehingga perlu dilakukan peningkatan produksi untuk mencukupi kebutuhan gizi masyarakat. Produksi bayam di Indonesia dari Tahun 2011-2015 mengalami fluktuasi (BPS, 2017). Untuk Kota Padang, produksi bayam berkurang karena lahan pertanian semakin sempit (BPS Kota Padang, 2016). Penyebab berkurangnya lahan pertanian adalah jumlah penduduk yang semakin padat sehingga banyak lahan pertanian diubah menjadi pemukiman.
