The number of death couse of infection continues to increase. Treatment of infections is increasingly difficult due to increased resistance of germs to existing antimicrobial compounds. A new source of antimicrobial substances is needed. One source of antimicrobial substances is endophytic bacteria that live in the stems of Andalas plants. The aim of this study was to compare the diversity of endophytic bacteria present in old and young Andalas plant stems. The method used to isolate endophytic bacteria from the stem of the Andalas plant is the streak plate method. Bacterial identification is done macroscopically and microscopically. The results of macroscopic observation showed that there are differences in the number of isolates found in old and young Andalas plant stems. 11 isolates of endophytic bacteria from Andalas plant stems, each of which consists of 9 isolates of endophytic bacteria from old Andalas stems and two isolates from young Andalas stems. A microscopic identification was found that of the 11 isolates, eight isolates were gram-positive and three isolates were gram-negative bacteria.. Key word: stem, Andalas, isolation, bacteria endophytic, identification ABSTRAK. Angka kematian akibat infeksi terus meningkat. Penanganan infeksi semakin sulit karena meningkatnya resistensi kuman terhadap senyawa antimikroba yang ada. Dibutuhkan sumber zat antimikroba baru. Salah satu sumber zat antimikroba adalah bakteri endofit yang hidup dalam batang tumbuhan Andalas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membandingkan keragaman bakteri endofit yang ada pada batang tumbuhan Andalas tua dan muda. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengisolasi bakteri endofit dari batang tumbuhan Andalas adalah metode streak plate. Identifikasi bakteri dilakukan secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis. Hasil pengamatan secara makroskopis menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan jumlah isolat yang terdapat pada batang tumbuhan Andalas tua dan muda. Diperoleh 11 isolat bakteri endofit dari batang tumbuhan Andalas, masing-masingnya terdiri dari 9 isolat bakteri endofit dari batang Andalas tua dan 2 isolat dari batang Andalas muda.Identifikasi secara mikroskopis diketahui bahwa dari 11 isolat yang berhasil diisolasi, delapan isolat merupakan bakteri gram positif dan tiga isolat merupakan bakteri gram negatif.
