This study aims to examine the effect of transesterification processing temperature on the characteristics of biodiesel and diesel engine performance. The characteristics of biodiesel include viscosity, density, and methyl ester content while diesel engine performance includes torque and power. The research was conducted in several stages, namely making biodiesel from fresh cooking oil with variations in transesterification temperature of 45oC, 55oC, and 65oC; testing the characteristics of biodiesel produced; and testing biodiesel as a blend of diesel oil (B30) in diesel-engined vehicles. The results showed that the higher the transesterification temperature, the lower the value of viscosity, density, and increasing levels of methyl ester. The diesel engine performance shows that, the higher the transesterification temperature, the higher the value of torque and power generated, but in general the torque and power are still under the torque and power of diesel engines fueled by diesel fuel (B0). The use of biodiesel fuel with transesterification temperature of 65 ℃ has the highest average torque and power, 108.11 Nm and 43.51 kW respectively.
