Este artigo apresenta um conjunto de categorias da ação docente, obtidas da observação direta das atividades desenvolvidas em sala de aula, por três professores de Matemática do Ensino Fundamental. A pesquisa utilizou a análise textual discursiva para a organização e interpretação dos dados, os quais foram coletados por meio de gravação em áudio e vídeo e notas de campo. Das análises emergiram quatro categorias de ação: Burocrático-Administrativa (BAd), Espera (Esp), Explica (Exp) e Escreve (Esc). Foi possível perceber que a ação docente é complexa e múltipla e que os professores, em geral, perderam muito tempo com ações do tipo BAd, consideradas ações preliminares ao ato de ensinar, propriamente dito.The purpose of this research was to describe the teachers action of three Mathematics teachers of the fundamental school, obtained through direct observation of the activities developed in the classroom, and to present a set of categories of those actions. The research used the discursive textual analysis to the organization and interpretation of data, which were collected by audio and video recording and field notes. From the analysis emerged four categories of action: Bureaucratic-Administrative (BAd), Wait (Esp), Explain (Exp) and Write (Esc). It was possible to see that the teaching action is complex and multiple and that teachers generally have lost a lot of time in the actions of BAd type considered preliminary actions to the proper act of teaching.
