Flax seed (Linum usitatissimum) is used as a food source for having many valuable nutrients1. It contains near about 45 % oil, 30 % dietary fiber and 25% protein. The oil is rich in essential fatty acids mainly omega 3 fatty acid, which is higher than any other vegetable oils2, vitamin and minerals. Around 73% of the fatty acids in flaxseed are PUFA. Approximately 50% of the total fatty acid consists of α-Linolenic acid (ALA)3. The α-Linolenic acid and related chemicals in flaxseed oil seem to decrease inflammation.
