The present investigation examined the relationship between exercise and self-esteem in the context of the Exercise and Self-Esteem Model (EXSEM) (Sonstroem & Morgan, 1989). Physical acceptance and physical evaluation (competence), both at a general domain and a specific domain, were measured and included in tests of model constructs. The sample, comprised of fitness center members and university students (N = 526), completed a survey designed to assess exercise behavior and several selfperception variables. Using Structural Modeling Analysis, several models were examined and compared
