Synopsis: The apparatus which can measure the temperature distribution of a flue wall of a coke oven was developed. The following results are obtained by measuring the temperature distributions at various conditions of coke oven. (1) Radiation pyrometer which is set in the water cooled probe can measure the flue wall temperature of coke oven. (2) The quantitative relations between the temperature distributions in the flue and the operating conditions of coke oven were obtained. The method to improve the temperature distributions in the flue was derived. (3) The coke quality at the upper part of the oven is inferior for the coke oven which has single stage burner. It is verified that the lower limit of coke quality can be guaranteed by controlling the temperature at the upper part in the flue.
