このたびは,製 鉄業 に従事す る者にと り最高の栄誉で ある渡辺義介賞受賞の栄 に浴 し,身 に余 る光栄 と心か ら 関係者の皆様の 御厚意 に対 し御礼申 し上げ る 次第であ る.し か しなが ら,製 鉄業発展に 貢献す るとい うよ うな 大 きな ことは,個 人の規模ではなかなかで きないもので あ り,こ のたびの受賞は,長 い期間にお いて御指 導 と御 協力を受 けた数多 くの優れた人々の功績の積み重ねが, 今 日このよ うな評価をされ ることになつた ものであ り, 誠に慶びに堪 えない次第であ る. 標題 は,「鉄鋼技術 の進歩発展 と製鉄所の近代化」であ るが,内 容は主 として私が現役時代に経験 した事 を軸に してお り,そ の意味 ではあ る程度限 られた分 野に留まつ ている. 当時 を振 り返つてみ ると,現 在では当 り前の技術がそ の当時 の状況下では相当の問題 を含み,非 常な危惧 と責 任 を感 じた ことが数 々思 い出され る. 私のそれ らの経験が,少 しで も役に立てば幸いと思い, あえて披露 させ ていただ く次第である.
