, where [P]Fe represents phosphorus in molten iron, (O2) is gaseous oxygen, and {P2O5}slag indicates P2O5 in slag. It is well known that P2O5 in slag reacts with CaO to form solid solutions between tri-calcium phosphate, Ca3P2O8, and di-calcium silicate, Ca2SiO4. According to Le Chatelier’s principle, the thermochemical conditions for effective dephosphorization are low temperature, high oxygen potential (high FexO activity), and low P2O5 activity (high basicity). Figure 1 shows the iso-thermal section of the FexO–CaO–SiO2 ternary system at 1 573 K,2) which is one of the basic steelmaking slags. Figure 1 illustrates that liquid phase can be obtained in the region of high FexO content and low slag basicity.
