本研究では超音波バイオテレメトリー手法においてピンガを対象魚の腹腔内に挿入した場合の送波音圧の変化とそれが受信距離に及ぼす影響について明らかにすることを目的とした。ピンガの代わりに無指向性の送波器をミナミマグロ 3 個体の腹腔内に挿入し個体毎に送波音圧を様々な方向から測定した。その結果方向によって送波音圧が変化することを確認した。送波音圧は最大約 34 dB 低下し受信距離に換算すると約 460 m の減少となった。本研究からピンガを腹腔内に挿入すると受信距離が短くなることが示された。
