Recently, a big problem occurred in Scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis, farming in the Funka Bay with relation to the reproduction process. Especially, the depression of the collection of larvae occurred 4 times in 1990s. It is consider that the reasons are both of physical and biological factors. Biological factors such as egg abnormality and unhealthy of larvae, and physical factors such as advection of larvae to the bay outside and variation of water temperature in the egg laying time were considered as primary factors affected to the depression. In spring, laying period of the scallop, Coastal Oyashio water (COW) intrude into Funka Bay by the flow which induced by the northwest wind. Cold and low saline of COW promotes the stratification and enhances the primary production in this region. On the other hand, the intrusion of COW into this region in late spring has a harmful effect on the egg laying of scallop and the growth of scallop larvae. This current system seems to give the effect on the advection of larvae to the outside of bay. We employed High Frequency Ocean Surface Radars (HFOSRs) to measure the surface current in the Funka Bay. Observed current vector was used for simulation of the advection to clarify the effect of advection on the depression of larvae.
