ペントバルビダール麻酔下のネコの耳介側頭神経を用いて, 顎関節支配神経を含む小神経束の神経線維構成, 伝導速度ならびに顎関節機械刺激に対する機能的単一神経応答を検索した。その結果この小神経束には, Aβ, Aδ, 無髄神経線維の存在が組織学的, 生理学的に明らかになった。また刺激に対する順応性の相違から, 顎関節神経の機能的単一神経応答はSustained type, Transient type, Intermediate typeに分類され, さらにTransient type, Intermediate typeにおいては, on typeとon-off typeが観察された。これらの単一神経応答の受容野は, ほぼ顎関節包後外側に局在した。記録された応答数および受容野の分布ならびに面積は, 各応答typeによって異なり, Sustained typeが最も数が多く, また広い受容野を有していた。以上から, ネコ顎関節は機能的, 形態的に分化した神経終末を有する一次求心性神経線維に支配されていることが示唆された。
