エストロゲンの欠乏は, 閉経後骨粗鬆症に関連し, エストロゲンは, 骨吸収抑制作用があると考えられている。閉経および卵巣摘出により, 骨吸収性サイトカインの産生が増加する。そこで本研究では, 閉経後女性の歯肉溝滲出液 (gingival crevicular fluid, GCF) 中のIL-1濃度を, 閉経前女性との間で比較した。IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-1ra濃度および総IL-1/IL-1ra比 (IL-1活性度, IL-1 AI) は, 閉経前女性 (Pr群, 44.2±2.2歳) 12名の72歯, 閉経後女性 (Po群, 57.8±1.3歳) 12名の72歯, 合計144歯から測定した。IL-1α, IL-1βおよびIL-1ra濃度の測定には, サンドウィッチ酵素免疫測定法 (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, ELISA) を用いた。GCF採取時に, 歯周病所見 (プロービングポケット深さ, クリニカルアタッチメントレベル, プロービング時の歯肉出血, 歯の動揺度, 歯肉炎指数, 歯槽骨吸収率) を診査した。歯周病所見は, 両群間に差はなく, 辺縁歯肉の炎症はコントロールされていた。Po群のIL-1α, IL-1ra濃度は, Pr群に比べ高く (P < 0.01), また, IL-1β濃度, IL-1AIも高かった (P < 0.05)。したがって, 閉経は, GCF中のIL-1産生の増加に影響することが示唆された。
