歯周病患者に対し, 初期治療に併用して, 塩化セチルピリジニウムを薬液とし歯周ポケット内をエアージェットイリゲーターで洗浄することにより, 歯周病罹患部位の臨床パラメータおよび歯周ポケット内細菌叢におよぼす影響について観察を行った。その結果, Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Probing Depth, Attachment Levelとペリオチェック®による細菌学的検査においてエアージェット群が, 初期治療のみのコントロール群に比べより早期に有意な改善が認められた。Bleeding on Probingには有意差は認められなかった。これらの結果より, 初期治療に加えエアージェットイリゲーターを併用することが, スケーリング・ルートプレーニング単独より歯周ポケット内の細菌叢, 臨床症状の改善に寄与する可能性があると考えられる。
