6頭のウマを用いて, 右側横臥姿勢においてイソフルレン麻酔下 (呼気イソフルレン濃度1.7±0.1%) で調節呼吸により動脈血二酸化炭素分圧を40±5mmHgに維持し, 3用量 (0.5, 1.0および2.0μg/kg/min) のドブタミンによる循環動態の変化を観察した。ドブタミン投与により平均動脈圧は用量依存的に上昇した。末梢血管抵抗は投与前に比べて明らかに増加したが, 投与量間での有意差はみられなかった。1回拍出量は投与前に比べて0.5μg/kg/minでは増加傾向, 1.0および2.0μg/kg/minでは明らかに増加し, 用量依存的な増加傾向を示した。心拍数は0.5および1.0μg/kg/minでは減少傾向, 2.0μg/kg/minでは増加傾向を示した。したがって, 心拍出量は0.5μg/kg/minでは投与前値からほとんど変化せず, 1.0μg/kg/minでは増加傾向, 2.0μg/kg/minでは明らかな増加を示した。このことから, ドブタミン投与による平均動脈圧の上昇は, 0.5μg/kg/minでは体血管抵抗の増加のみで, 1.0および2.0μg/kg/minではこれに心拍出量の増加が伴ったものと考えられた。
