Since the genus Sterigmatomyces was established by FELL (1), six species are presently accepted in the genus; S. elviae Sonck et Yarrow (1969) (2), S. halophilus Fell (1966) (1), S. nectairii Rodrigues de Miranda (1975) (3), S. penicillatus Rodrigues de Miranda (1975) (3), S. polyborus Scott et van der Walt (1970) (4), and S. tursiopsis Kurtzman, Smiley, Johnson et Hoffman (1984) (5). These six species are morphologically classified into two groups (5). One, which includes S. elviae and S. halophilus, has conidia which are disjointed at the septum in the mid-region of the sterigma. The other group, which includes the other four species, has conidia which are freed by an end-break in the sterigma. The preceding studies of the coenzyme Q system have supported such groupings in the genus Sterigmatomyces (6). The former group is equipped with Q-9 and the latter with Q-10. The difference in these morphological and chemotaxonomic characters has proved to be adequate to distinguish the two groups at the generic level. This paper proposes Fellomyces, a new anamorphic yeast genus for the Q10equipped organisms whose conidia detach by a separation at the distal end of the sterigmata. The genus is named for Dr. J. W. Fell, School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami, Miami, Florida, U. S.
