The article "The photograph in the archives: a brief study on the need for a document management" is about the legitimacy of the photograph as document archival, liable and required of all care provided to so-called "traditional" documents. Therefore, we present a case study on photographic materials in archival space, based on both operational procedures observed in the file of a specialist institution in the generation and trade of photographic and editorial content, as in the literature. Considered now identified obstacles and supported by theoretical context, we present set of four practical actions aimed at optimizing the archival work of the institution and the file sector, prepared and developed during the year 2015, related to the work of completing the degree course Archivology in the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. The end result of the actions developed in the company reached an institutional dimension of great value though, as we know, there is much to go in meeting what is pursued as ideal.
