RESUMO Este artigo toma o filme A verdadeira historia de Lena Baker como indice analitico para discutir relacoes que se estabelecem entre os campos historiografico e cinematografico na construcao da memoria social. Considerando o convivio ambiguo e provocador que se estabelece entre historiografia e memoria, a reflexao pauta a importância das narrativas cinematograficas baseadas em fatos reais, sejam ficcionais ou documentais, para discutir e problematizar a construcao e a ressignificacao de lugares de memoria. ABSTRACT This article takes the film The Lena Baker Story as an analytical index to discuss relations established between historiographical and cinematic fields in the construction of social memory. Considering the ambiguous and provocative interaction established between historiography and memory, the reflection says about the importance of cinematic narratives based on real events, or whether fictional or documentary, to discuss and problematize the construction and reinterpretation of places of memory.
