In this article, I analyze the "Bandersnatch" episode from the Black Mirror TV series, created by Charlie Brooker and produced by Netflix streaming channel, based on the concepts of mise en abyme and metalepsis as a possibility for creating branched and labyrinthine narratives. Along those lines, I investigate how permutation allows “Bandersnatch” to interact with the viewer and, based on the fragmentation that results from this process, I relate mise en abyme and metalepsis to Gilles Deleuze’s image-time concept and to the concepts of Cronos and Aion, which he analyzes using Stoic texts. Also, I compare “Bandersnatch” to Christopher Nolan’s movie Inception, Bigas Luna’s Angustia, and Alain Resnais’ Je t'aime, Je t'aime in order to understand how mise en abyme and metalepsis tear apart progression and linearity by having repetition and circularity to collapse the narrative and offer it as a play of unstable realities.
