Research undertaken along Fish Creek in 1948 has provided a baseline for an unusual long-term data set on utilisation of wildlife across Western Arnhem Land in the tropical savanna by people who speak a number of commonly understood dialects across the regional pan-dialectical language Bininj Gunwok.1 The title of this chapter refers to two camping localities on fresh waterways in this region. The first, Kunnanj, is on Fish Creek about 20 km north-east of Gunbalanya (formerly Oenpelli); the second is at Mumeka on the Mann River some 50 km south-west of Maningrida. The two places are about 100 km apart.
