Nutritional status is an important factor for under five children’s growth as it influence their level of intelligence. However, there is a belief so-called “taskon” which could be a risk in lowering maternal and child health at Fatumnasi village, Molo ethnic. “Taskon” is a set of activities which aims to treat mothers during post-natal care by applying food restriction for 40 days or during after birth to eat only corn porridge (jagung bose) so it could compromise mothers’ nutritional supply. This study aims at exploring why the Mollo community maintain the taskon tradition. Data were collected by indepth interviews with post-natal mothers, religion figures, public figures of Mollo etnic from April to October 2017. The findings indicated that taskon were still conducted especially by Marga Oematan, although it implemented only for 4-8 first days after birth since they were worried if they broke the abstinence, they would pay consequences (from illness to death). Fatumnasi’s soil was fertile, however, community had less willingness to cultivate their lands. Besides, accesibility and infrastrucure were insufficient to support produce trade. A multisector collaboration is needed to develop a model for decreasing malnutrition level in the study area.
