The article discusses indeterminacy in foreign language discourse (VEREZA, 2002) – a mismatch between what speakers wish to say and what they manage to say. This study seeks to identify the markers of this indeterminacy in the discourse productions of Brazilian Letters undergraduates in English and Portuguese, which is approached from the perspective of Appraisal in texts (MARTIN & WHITE, 2005).
