Human Genetics offers the possibility of understanding certain diseases that were practically unknown until recently, such as Cri-du-Chat, Fragile X and Prader-Willi among others. Discovering the genetic etiology of a complex disease is important, but not a substitute for the information required for the rehabilitation of those affected. Currently there is no restorative treatment for Cri-du-Chat (CDC) and Down syndrome (DS). The purpose of this paper is to understand the cognitive and linguistic functioning of these patients, and to analyze the ways in which these factors contribute to improve their academic and personal performance. In this article, the author presents (O: THE AUTHORS PRESENT, SI FUERAN DOS O MAS AUTORES) a comparative study of the behaviour patterns observed in DS and CDC. To achieve this objective we review recent literature taking into account the etiology, diagnosis, evolution of the disease, and intervention techniques, among other aspects. A significant outcome is the fact that the levels of knowledge about CDC syndrome are still very low compared to those achieved through research on DS, particularly in cognitive and linguistic areas.
