The de sign and con struc tion of a blood flow de tec tor probe for a Con tin u ous Wave (CW) Bidirectional Dopp ler Ul tra sound sys tem is pre sented. This de vice is based on two pi ezo elec tric ce ram i cs work ing in con tin u ous mode and us ing quad ra ture phase de mod u la tion for de tect ing the blood flow Dopp ler sig nal. The probe gen er ates the I (In phase) and Q (in Quad ra ture) Dopp ler sig nals as au dio. These sig nals are fed to the line in on the PC sound board for fur ther pro cess ing. Os cil la tor-transmitter and de tec tor-demodulator cir cuits are in te grated into a 1.5 x 9 cm printed cir cuit board (PCB). Pi ezo e lec tric ce ram ics are placed and con nected 1 cm apart the PCB, this achieves noise re duc tion and in creases the probe sen si bil ity. The cir cuit de sign al lows op er a tion at 4, 5, 8 and 10 MHz de pend ing on the blood flow de tec tion depth in ar ter ies or su per fi cial ves sels.
