This paper describes the development of a prototype track measuring device that uses the inertial mid-chord offset method. This device can be mounted on commercial railway vehicles. The prototype device was installed on a track inspection car and its practical measuring accuracy and long-term durability were evaluated. Since initial results from running tests indicated that the accuracy of the device was lower when used at low speed, a method was developed to compensate accuracy at low speed.
