When train operations are disrupted, timetables must be adjusted and rolling stock allocation and crew duties are rescheduled. In this paper, the problem of rescheduling locomotive assignment to freight trains after timetable adjustment is discussed. The problem is modeled as an integer programming problem with set-partitioning constraints. It is solved by column generation technique, which alternatively enumerates candidate locomotive paths and optimizes rescheduling. Numerical experiments of the proposed method are conducted using real data. Findings from these experiments indicate that this method provides a satisfactory locomotive rescheduling plan in reasonable computing time. Directions for future research are described.
