津波数値計算結果と比較する現地データとして, Phuket Marine Biological Center (2005)(以下,PMBC)と Chavanichら(2008)の,インド洋大津波後のサンゴ被害 調査データを用いる. PMBC(2005)では,タイ全土で行われたサンゴ被害調 査のデータを取りまとめ,場所ごとの被害率で分類し,地 図上に表記している(図-1(a), (b)).被害程度は5段階に 分類され,図中のI~Vはそれぞれ(I)“no impact(0%)”, ( II)“very low impact ( 1~10%)”,( III)“low impact ( 11~ 30%)”,(IV)“medium impact (31~50%)”,(V)“high impact (51~100%)”を表している.これらの被害率データは,複 数のダイバーにより目視判断で決定されているため,デ ータの精度は後述のChavanichら(2008)と比べて低いが, 全体的な傾向や被害の相対的な差などを読み取ることが できる.PMBC(2005)で挙げられているシミラン諸島で のサンゴ被害の特徴として,2島間の海峡部,各島の北側, 南側の突端で被害率が高いとされている.一方,島の西 側では津波が直撃したにも関わらず,サンゴ被害はわず かであったとされる. Chavanichら(2008)は,シミラン(Similan)島とバ ーグー(Bangu)島の礁斜面に沿って6測線(図-1(a), ◎1~6)を調査し,測線上のサンゴ被害を調べた.また, それら調査測線ごとの被害傾向を,礁斜面勾配の緩い測 2004年インド洋大津波によるタイ・シミラン諸島での サンゴ被害の数値的評価 Numerical evaluation of the coral damages by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami at Similan Islands, Thailand
