A runoff recession polygon is formed of concatenated segments of lines which are obtained by regressing each of them individually to corresponding group of observed hydrographs. Furthermore, the polygon is extrapolated both to upper and lower infinities by two distinct negative exponential curves respectively and the long range runoff recession curve is constituted as a whole. The area under the curve from certain given time point to rightward infinity shows total runoffs which would discharge from this point on, if no rainy days were to be continued infinitely. In other words, the area represents latent runoffs which are retained in the watershed at that time. Analogous latent evapo-transpirations are evaluated using preinvestigated evapo-transpiration. coefficients and sum of these two latent quantities estimates the residual moisture.
