近代土木遺産については、土木史研究委員会の編集による「日本の近代土木遺産 一現存する 重要な土木構造物2000選 」によって、その評価の考え方と保存 ・活用状況が明らかとなった。 、有形 ・無形の土木史料については、その評価のみならず、保管 ・整理がほ とんど行 き 届いていないのが現状である。そのため、土木史料の保存管理の考え方すらあま り提案されて いない1)。 本研究は、科学研究費補助金 「有形 ・無形の土木史料の全国調査とその保存 ・活用のあ り方 に関する研究」(研究代表:大 熊孝)の 活動の一端 として実施 した研究成果を公表する。ここで は、桐生市役所に残る未整理状態の近代水道関連史料を対象に、整理作業からデータベース化、 保存 ・管理 にいたるまでの過程を紹介するとともに、その作業工程毎の検討課題 とその対処方 法を提示 し、保存管理にいたるマニュアルを作成 して、一つの土木史料の保存管理 方法を提案 する。
