This paper presents an ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) ånite element method for çuid{ structure interaction (FSI) problems with free surface. The mesh re{generation method based on background mesh is introduced to improve the applicability to the complicated FSI problems. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation based on ALE description is used as the governing equation of çuid. The SUPG/PSPG formulation is employed for the ånite element discretization. The structure is assumed to be a rigid body. As numerical examples, the present method is applied to the çoating problem of a circular object, the water entry problem of a wedge object and the falling problem of a circular object. The eéciency of the present method is shown by numerical results.
