Fifth-generation Mobile Communications System (5G) has been deployed in the world and it is expected to realize various services and solutions and create new industries. Since a mobile system including mobile network, devices, and services is one of the foundations for a connected society, not only high performance, functionality, and efficiency but also reliability, safety and security, eco-friendliness, and sustainability are increasingly required. Regarding themes on mobile computing and intelligent transport systems, The special interest group of the Mobile Computing and Pervasive Systems (SIGMBL) and the Intelligent Transport Systems and Smart Community (SIGITS) of IPSJ play a central role, and over 170 excellent papers have been presented at the workshops every year. A lot of papers concerning these fields are in DICOMO symposium which is held from 1997. It is very significant for IPSJ to promote research in this field and to contribute to its development by publishing papers related to SIGMBL and SIGITS collectively. For the purpose of such research promotion, SIGMBL and SIGITS planned this special issue in the cooperation. The editorial progress of this special issue is as follows. CFP: January 2020 Submission deadline: April 6, 2020 The 1st Editorial Committee Meeting: April 17, 2020 The 2nd Editorial Committee Meeting: June 18, 2020 The 3rd Editorial Committee Meeting: September 17, 2020 10 papers were conditionally accepted from 14 submissions and finally, 9 papers were accepted. The acceptance rate is 64%. 3 papers are related to behavior recognition and 2 papers are related to position estimation. Other four papers are related to route recommendation, facilities retrieval, on-board software, and advertising technology. In this special issue, Dr. Akira Uchiyama of Osaka University wrote a survey paper on research and development trends related to context recognition by wireless sensing. The Editorial Committee believes that it has been able to obtain high-quality papers on hot technologies in the fields of mobile computing and intelligent transport systems. Finally, I would like to thank the Editorial Board, the Editorial Committee members, the reviewers, and the members who submitted the paper.
