Land tenure security and its contribution to food security — Burkina Faso

along with its neighboring countries in the african Sahel, burkina Faso has been experiencing intermittent food shortages since the global food crisis of 2007-2008. These food shortages and the global food price crisis (which increased food prices by 65 percent in burkina Faso) resulted in riots against “la vie chere” (the expensive life) in cities across the country. in 2012 burkina Faso faced another food crisis, and the second since 2009 (oxfam 2013).
