The article reports on the use of pigeons as models in the study of vestibular dysfunction. In the experiment reported, the cupula was loosened by raising the endolymph pressure on one side of the ampulla. The pigeon eyes showed a nystagmus. One day later, the pigeons were able to stand upright, but with head tilted toward the side of operation. The pigeons were able to fly within 15 days. Vestibular defects added in some experimental birds resulted in an inability to regain flying capacity.
