炭素繊維強化プラスチック(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic,CFRP)は,軽量,高強度,高剛性,高耐久性と いった特徴を合わせ持つ次世代エンジニアリング材料と して注目されている.目的に応じた構造がより軽量で実 現できるため,航空機や自動車の燃費向上による省エネ 効果が期待されている.低炭素社会にとって魅力的な素 材であるCFRPを加工する新たな手法としてレーザーを 用いた切断・穴開けの研究が進められており,レーザー 加工部周囲の熱影響層の観察や加工速度の最適化などが 連続発振のディスクレーザーや炭酸ガスレーザーならび にパルス幅が数10 μsのNd:YAGレーザー,数10 nsの紫 外Nd:YVO4レーザー,10 psの紫外レーザー,100 fsの Ti:Sapphireレーザー等を用いて行われている. CFRPは炭素繊維とマトリックス樹脂からなる炭素繊 維強化樹脂複合材料である.典型的な炭素繊維とマト リックス樹脂の物性値をTable 1に示す.熱伝導率,蒸 発/分解温度,蒸発熱,それぞれ樹脂と炭素繊維では1桁 以上の差がある.炭素繊維に比べて樹脂の方がより低い 温度で,より少ないエネルギーで蒸発することが分か る.CFRPのレーザー加工における問題は,レーザー照 射条件を樹脂に最適化すると炭素繊維が加工できない, 炭素繊維に条件を合わせると樹脂に過剰な熱が加わると いう点である.また,CFRP内を縦横にはしる炭素繊維 による熱伝導も考慮しなければいけない. CFRPと呼ばれる複合材料は用途に応じて様々な種類 のものが開発されている.炭素繊維の形態として,クロ ス織り込み,一方向,ランダム,長繊維ペレット,短繊 維ペレットなど代表的には5種類,樹脂としてはエポキ シ,ナイロン,ポリプロピレン,ABS等,幾種類もの素 材が用途に応じて使われている.炭素繊維の含有率や成 Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has attractive features like high-durability, high-strength and light-weight. We have been investigating micromachining of CFRP by ultra-short laser pulses in order to minimize material damages and heat affected zone. The laser system used in this study was a commercially available Ti:Sapphire laser and a pulsed fi ber laser. The pulsewidth dependences of laser grooving/cutting for CFRP with cross-ply and uni-directional fiber texture were studied. For highquality and high-speed laser grooving, we proposed and demonstrated the novel dual beam grooving technique.
