A frequency-shifted feedback laser (FSFL), which generates a comb of chirped frequency components, has ability for long distance and high accuracy optical ranging. In this report, the principles and performance of FSFL ranging based on optical frequency-domain ranging are reviewed. This laser system could achieve a accuracy, and less affected by distance up to range of 1 km. Applications of the FSFL to 3D shape are also described.
