1.は じ め に 我 が 国 の 近年 にお け る 経済 成 長 の 基 とな っ た の は製 造 業 の強 さ であ った 。今後 、グ ローバ ル 化 は一 層進 展 す るで あ ろ うが 、21世 紀 に お ける我 が国 の持 続 的発 展 を支 え るの は高 度 な"も のづ くり"で ある こ とは明 らかで あ る。 1960年 にル ビー レーザ ー の 発 振 が 成功 して か ら今 年 で40 年 にな る。 この 間 の レーザ ー に関す る研 究 、技 術 開発 の進 展 は実 に速 く、各種 の レーザ ー 発振 装置 及 び レー ザ ー利用 の計 測 技術 、加工 技術 、通 信技 術 、 医療技 術 な どの発達 、 並び に それ らの装置 及 び技術 の 各方 面 への 普及 に は 目を見 張 る もの が ある。 今後 、 レー ザー を始 め とす る光 関 連技 術 の発 展、 普 及 はさ らに進 み 、21世 紀 が 「光 の世紀 」 にな るの は間 違 いな い と言 われ て いる。
