In 1982 the authors stated in their advance reports that in Japan trilobites were more common in the Middle Permian than in the Lower Permian and none was described from the Upper Permian rocks. At that time pseudophillipsiids were known to occur in the Neosehwagerina-Yabeina zones of the Akasaka limestone, although no systematic study was done. Since then the Akasaka trilobites including those from the lower and higher zones with a preliminary note of observations were afforded to the authors for study by Messrs. H. Hayano, S. Hayashi, M. Hori, F. Kojima, Y. Okada, M. Okura, T. Ono and Y. Tanaka to whom the authors express their cordial thanks. The collection contains five species of Pseudophillipsia from four zones in ascending order as below.
