Diabetes mellitus is rapidly emerging creating major health problem worldwide. Though synthetic drugs are available, due to their association with side effect, there is always interest for search of herbal formulation. Quercus serrata is a plant used by traditional healers of Manipur, India as a folk remedy to treat diabetes mellitus. The objective of this study is bioassay guided isolation of -glucosidase inhibitory compound from the leaves of Quercus serrata and to check the postprandial antihyperglycaemic effect of the isolated compound in STZ-induced diabetic albino mice.
