Avicenna is one of the most important figures of Islamic philosophy. He dealt with almost all the sciences of his time, such as medicine, physics, logic, mathematics, especially metaphysics and wrote many important works in these fields. Dânisnâme-i ‘alâi is one of his important works consisting of metaphysic, logic, physic and mathematic. Among these sciences, metaphysic is one of the areas that still maintain its importance today. Avicenna firstly wrote the classification of sciences, beings, objects and categories in the metaphysic section of Dânisnâme-i ‘alâi. Then, he analyzed the basic concepts of metaphysic, which are universal-particular, unity-plurality, priority-posteriority, cause-effect, finitude-eternity, potentiality-actuality and necessary-contingent. After this concept analysis, he revealed the Compulsory Existent, personality and characteristic of Compulsory Existent, the contingent existent, the existence of contingent being, the nature of their change and transformation, which are the main issues of metaphysic. In this study, after analyzing the basic concepts of Dânisnâme-i ‘alâi metaphysics on a logical and conceptual level, we tried to reveal their application and function on the basic issues of metaphysic. In doing so, we have followed a method based on understanding, interpretation, comparison and evaluation, which is one of the basic methods of social sciences and philosophy.
