The “PHERMEX” radiographic facility has been used to study the interaction of shocks with cylindrical aluminum rods, “V” notches, and cylindrical voids in water. The experimental results are compared with twodimensional numerical PIC (particle-in-cell)computations. Agreement between computation and experiment was within the resolution of the methods.
