Energy deposition rates (dose rates) within dispersed and layered organic waste in a series of double shell tank mixes were recently calculated with the results shown in Attachment 1. An independent verification is required for the tank mixes shown in bold print in the attachment. In addition, it is desired that a simple method be developed for correcting for gamma losses from a waste layer when calculating energy deposition rates. A cylindrical layer of liquid waste (supernate) is assumed in which an organic component may by uniformly dispersed, or separated as a layer floating on top. No alpha, beta or gamma losses from the supernate were assumed for the dispersed case. For the layered case the gamma dose rate 5 cm into the organic layer was calculated using MICROSHIELD.
