The current communications world is characterized by increasing number of enduser terminals, as well as the emerging convergence of different communication services withthe IP world. Thus, keeping a good network performance across all domains within aheterogeneous network became a challenge. Accordingly, the complexity of the performancemeasurement mechanism became higher and is in a real need to simplification and accuracyto keep pace with the overwhelming growth. This paper deals with an approach of using thesignaling networks protocol analysis in assessment of networks performance including thelegacy core segment, the IP core segment, the wireless segment, as well as the applicationsegment. As well, the use of the technique in the early detection of security attacks iselaborated which is based on network abnormal events detection A full analysis methodologyis proposed, using statistical algorithms and mathematical modeling of a sample of trafficscenarios. As a conclusion, the proposed mechanism helps in simplification, quickness, andaccuracy of measurements regardless of the manufacturer proprietary applications, and nodesarchitectures.
