Resumo Abstract: This work describes the preparation and photophysical studies of the complexes [Ru(H2dcbpy)2(L 1)] (PF6)2 (1a), [Ru(Et2dcbpy)2(L )](PF6)2 (1b), [Ru(H2dcbpy)2(L )](PF6)2 (2) and [(Et2dcbpy)2Ru(μ-L )Ru(Et2dcbpy)2] (PF6)4 (3), where H2dcbpy = 4,4’-dicarboxy-2,2’-bipyridine; Et2dcbpy = 4,4’-dicarbethoxy-2,2’-bipyridine; L1 = 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione; L2 = dipyridine[1,4]dioxine-monophenazine and L3 = tetrapyridine[1,4] dioxine-diphenazine. The new complexes 2 and 3, and the already known 1a and 1b, have been fully characterized by spectroscopic and physicochemical techniques. The photophysical studies of all synthesized complexes were also carried out and it is remarkable the observed hydrosolubility and the fluorescence in all used solvents, including water, which indicates that they are very promising agents for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).
