Be aware a city is a place of relationships and interrelationships formed by complex signs demanding specific solutions for each case, the search for means contemplate these specificities, shows of great interest when it is desired the sustainable development of cities and the citizens quality of life. This article aims to analyze assessment tool called Systematic Social Observation (SSO), adapted to Brazilian reality, uses the Systematic Observation method normally applied by the field of Social Sciences Applied, which has the major advantage the passive participation of the actors involved in the process (eliminates the need for opinion of the ethics committee) in which they propose to carry out urban diagnostics, through the survey in loco producing qualitative and quantitative data. The comparative study case applied the tool in two districts of the city of Juiz de Fora, MG, selected by the low amount of green areas and high rates of respiratory diseases, in which it was investigated if are elements and/or which elements could influence the occurrence of this phenomenon. Thus, this article will analyze this tool, display the results and its applicability to the field of architecture and urbanism and concluding remarks.
