The article analyses the existential threat of the Islamic State towards the minority communities in Iraq and Syria. For this purpose, this paper is based on the concepts of societal security and securitization. It points out that the actions of the Islamic State pursued to erase the presence of the minorities, specially Yazidis and Christians, according to securitization process of the religion on basis salafi-jihadism speech, which stablish the need to eliminate and persecute any manifestation of polytheism (shirk) and infidels (kafir), in order to cope the enemy in an apparent war against Islam.
